We’re connected by some simple values here at Calvary. Everything we do reflects these values and they drive every decision we make and every conversation we have. This is what we’re all about:
We put a high value on getting to know God. We do this by spending time in the Word of God – the Bible. We read it, think about it, and study it. And we also get to know God through spending time in prayer, which we simply think of as talking to God.
It’s important to us to connect with people in relationships and serve people in humility, always working to treat others as we want to be treated.
Living generously demands that we give of ourselves – our time, talent, and treasure – as God gives us opportunity. It also means we are committed to FORGIVE others as God has forgiven us.
There is one true God who exists in three persons who are all equal: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Romans 1:3-4) The Father is the sovereign creator and sustainer of all. (Genesis 1:1, Hebrews 11:3)
The Son, Jesus, was sent by the Father, being fully God and fully man (Matthew 1:22-23), and living a sinless life on the earth. Jesus willingly laid down His life on the cross for the sins of the world and three days later rose from the grave. In doing this Jesus conquered sin and death and paid for the sins of the world. (John 3:16-21, John 14:10-14)
The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father to convict the world of their sin and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. He lives in every believer and is a constant helper, teacher, and guide. (John 14:16-29, 2 Corinthians 3:17, Acts 1:8)
About the Bible:
The Bible is God’s Word to us and is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16, Psalm 119:105, Proverbs 30:5) It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. (1 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Timothy 3:16) It is a completed cannon without any error or contradiction. (2 Timothy 1:13, Psalm 12:6)
God created us all in His image (Genesis 1:27) and we all matter to God. We have all been marred by disobedience and therefore need God’s forgiveness. (Romans 3:23) If we are willing to confess our sins and make Jesus Christ the Lord of our life, we are saved by God’s grace and will have eternal life. (Romans 5:1, 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6, Galatians 3:26) For those who have been truly saved, they cannot lose their salvation because it is secured by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of people. (Ephesians 2:8-9, John 10:29, 1 Peter 1:3-5)
People were created to exist forever. (John 3:36, Matthew 25:46) Those who have put their faith in Jesus will exist eternally with God in Heaven (John 3:16, 1 John 2:25, Romans 6:23), and those who have not put their faith in Jesus will exist eternally without God in Hell Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. (1 John 5:11-13, Revelation 20:15)
