Calvary Community Church was born on June 10, 1973 when five people met in the living room of a modest home in Lincoln, Nebraska.  In the early days, we claimed this verse:

“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” (Jeremiah 32:27)

Over and over again, God has proven Himself to our Calvary family. Like the time Pastor Carl and Gayle asked God to give us the land at 1st & Superior Streets. The cost of the land seemed to make the request impossible, but the earnest young pastor and his wife prayed, and waited on God’s answer. And answer He did! Calvary now sits on 36 acres and is blessed with a worship center, secure children’s area, cafe, gymnasium and enough classrooms for all the families that pour through our doors throughout the week. From our small beginning, God has worked miracles in our midst. We have witnessed the fact that God still honors faith today. Just two years ago, we moved into our expanded facility and are now debt-free!

We are a congregation of God’s people who worship together, serve together, and believe that God wants people to have life at its fullest potential. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” We are committed to continue taking steps of faith to carry the message of Jesus Christ throughout Lincoln and into our world.

Why We Exist

God didn’t just put us here on this hill to have fun together (although we definitely do!) He gave us a reason to be here. In all that we do, every class, small group, service opportunity – each and every thing we do – we are here for this purpose:  to love God completely and to love people compassionately.

Love God Completely – We’re all in process. Because of that, we continue to learn how to love God and grow in our ability to live that out. We want to LOVE GOD with all our heart, soul, and mind.
Love People Compassionately – God loves people. He is full of mercy and compassion. We want to be like that too. As a matter of fact, we exist to do that very thing – LOVE PEOPLE compassionately.

And He (Jesus) said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39

If you feel you would like to find out more or make Calvary your church home, attend our next Closer Look gathering.  It’s held once a month after each morning service.  Pastors will answer your questions and help you understand who we are and what we believe and what we do here at Calvary. It’s a great first step to take! Coffee and child care are provided.
