Forward by Faith FAQsAnswers to most commonly asked questions & concerns: New Construction: Q: What is the current seating of the Worship center? A: About 325 adults and teens on a Sunday morning. We pack more in for large events like CWC with a lot of smaller kids seated.
Q: What will the seating be post construction? A: About 600 – building/fire codes would allow over 900.
Q: What is the current size of the stage - square feet? A: At center approximately 22’ deep and 35-40’ wide. Unusual shape of platform makes it hard to figure total square footage.
Q: What will the square footage be post construction? A: The average width is 50' and the depth at the center is 24'. Some places the width is 60’. We cannot create anymore depth because the east wall is a supporting wall and it would be very expensive to remove it. But the platform is also being built with a pre-constructed “extension” that can be put in place for events like CWC.
Q: Where will the youth be housed? A: Youth (teens) area is not part of the new construction so they will not be greatly impacted. Their youth area remains the same.
Q: Why are we using chairs vs. pews? A: Multi-use. We can use different set-ups for different events; “expand” the seating area as we grow; create a center aisle for weddings, etc.
Q: How was it decided who we would use for a contractor/builder? A: That decision has not been made. We acquired the services of an architect but have not hired a general contractor/builder yet.
Q: Is there a way that we can make the mother's room separate from the women's restroom? A: Not in current plans, but something we can certainly look at as we move forward.
Financial: Q: What is the cutoff amount that we need in gifts to go ahead or hold on construction? A: 2.5M+ needed for total construction. If there is too large a gap between commitments and total costs we can: 1. find more ways to scale down some of the construction 2. Finish construction in phases. Neither of these options would prohibit us from moving ahead with breaking ground. We may simply have to finish some of the construction at a later date but we can go ahead and build the “shell”.
Q: Has money been budgeted for building necessities such as custodial and utilities, etc? A: Those items will have to be put in yearly budgets beginning in 2009 (presuming we occupy new facilities by then.) They are not in the 07 or 08 budgets but we are certainly planning for the needed increase in future budgets.
PCS Related: Q: What is the plan for use of the Family Life Center – i.e. setting up chairs all the time, etc? A: During part of the construction phase we will have to meet in gym which will require set-up/tear down of chairs a great deal of the time.
Q: What is the long term plan for the school? A: Parkview would like to build and occupy their own buildings in the future.
Q: How will the Church's use of Gym and other facilities for worship impact school..? A: We have begun discussions with the school but many things about that are undecided at this time. Logistics for the time period when church is worshipping in gym will simply have to be worked out.
Responses to concerns: Concerns of Calvary loosing it’s Family Atmosphere, Not enough expansion for the children and the prospect of Pastor Carl passing the torch. Why are we discussing money on Easter..?
FAMILY ATMOSPHERE - Much of the ideas behind expansion were directed to creating a better fellowship/family environment on Sundays/Wednesdays. We will have more room, fewer services, more time between services, more “contact points” with people, etc. As with any expansion, there is a natural tendency to worry about getting bigger just as CCC did when moving from the Royal Room to present worship center. But we must continue to put into practice our goal of “becoming larger and smaller at the same time”. Regardless of building or membership size, the key to the present and the future continues to be connecting people and getting them into small groups of community.
NOT ENOUGH CHILDREN’S EXPANSION – The new space is based on doubling our children’s ministry. If God blesses then one day we will build again! We are seeking the right balance between preparing for the future and building more than we can afford.
CARL PASSING THE TORCH – This will certainly come some day but the church will continue on if she is built on the eternal purposes and not on a man. Pastor Carl will lead us through the construction of new bldg, thru the payment of it, and thru years of enjoying it as long as God allows him.
DISCUSSING MONEY ON EASTER? On that day we will celebrate the reason for the resurrection – that God has made a way for man to be accepted by Him and He has allowed us to be a part of sharing that story of redemption. The celebration of our 3-year commitments will provide a new tool (the building) to help us bring more people into relationship with the resurrected Christ. On Easter we will announce to God and the community that we are doing our part to prepare the way for those in NW Lincoln who have not yet come to Him!!! |
