Do you want to be on the team at Calvary and help us W-I-N to Christ! (membership)? Becoming a team member at Calvary is an extension of the idea of ownership—to live out our values and take responsibility for our mission to W-I-N people to Christ. We strive for relevance, are passionate about transformation, and believe success is determined by ownership. Are our attenders taking ownership of their faith and spiritual growth? Do they understand who we are as a church and why we do what we do? Are they united with us in our beliefs, values, purpose, and mission?
The process of becoming a team member is four simple steps. The first step is understanding what it means to have a relationship with Christ.
First Step (Relationship with Christ)
What does it take to begin a relationship with God? Devote yourself to unselfish religious deeds? Become a better person so that God will accept you? You may be surprised that none of those things will work. But God has made it very clear in the Bible how we can know Him. We really need to understand four important things:
- God loves you and wants you to experience life in a meaningful way.
- God’s Love
- ”God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
- ”God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever
- God’s Plan
- [Christ speaking] “I came that they might have life, and might have it
abundantly” [that it might be full and meaningful]. John 10:10
- [Christ speaking] “I came that they might have life, and might have it
- God’s Love
- All of us sin and our sin has separated us from God.
- We Are Sinful
”All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23- We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost.
We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way.
And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong,
on him, on him. Isaiah 53:6 (The Message) - We were created to have a meaningful life with God; but, because of
our self-centeredness, our relationship with God is broken. This selfwill,
characterized by an attitude of active rebellion or passive indifference,
is evidence of what the Bible calls sin.
- We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost.
- We Are Separated
”The wages of sin is death” [spiritual separation from God]. Romans 6:23
- We Are Sinful
- Jesus Christ took the penalty for our sin and made a way for us to
come to God.- He died in our place
- ”God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
- ”God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet
- He rose from the dead
- “Christ died for our sins…He was buried…He was raised on the third
day, according to the Scriptures…He appeared to Peter, then to the
twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred…”
1 Corinthians 15:3–5
- “Christ died for our sins…He was buried…He was raised on the third
- He is the only way to God
- “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one
comes to the Father, but through Me.’” John 14:6
- “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one
- He died in our place
- We must trust Jesus Christ as Savior and confess Him as Lord;
- We must Receive Christ
- ”As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become
children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12
- ”As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become
- We receive Christ through faith
- ”By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves,
it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one
should boast.” Ephesians 2:8–9 - Receiving Christ involves turning to God from self (repentance) and
trusting Christ to come into our lives to forgive our sins and to make
us what He wants us to be. Just to agree intellectually that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for your sins is
not enough. Nor is it enough to have an emotional experience. You
receive Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of the will.
- ”By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves,
- You can receive Christ right now by faith through prayer.
- Prayer is talking to God. God knows your heart and is not so concerned
with your words as He is with the attitude of your heart.
- Prayer is talking to God. God knows your heart and is not so concerned
- Is it possible to be 100% sure I’m going to heaven? It IS!
- “These things I have written to you … in order that you may know that
you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:13
- “These things I have written to you … in order that you may know that
- We must Receive Christ
It is our fervent prayer that you receive Christ and His salvation. It is the most important decision you will make in your life.
