Velocity introduces

S.D.I.
Strategic
Discipleship
Initiative

What is SDI?
A brand-new kind of “Sunday-school” for students in grades 6-12.

What do you mean by “discipleship”?
A disciple of Jesus is someone who is both a student and follower of the teachings of Jesus. To be a disciple of Jesus you have to learn what Jesus taught. But more importantly you have to do what He taught. Discipleship is the process of working together to become more like Jesus!

How does SDI work?
Teens pair up with a discipleship partner for accountability and encouragement on Sunday mornings, and hopefully, throughout the week. After they meet with their partner, they join other youth in a small group of 15-17 students. Each small group will study God’s Word in a SDI course (check out the back of this handout for descriptions) for six weeks.

Won’t that be boring?
The curriculum is created specifically for teens and is so applicable to daily life, it is far from boring! Instead, we think the students will get so excited about what they are learning that they will become powerful missiles for God in their schools, families and among their friends.

What do I have to do to get involved in SDI?
Head down to the gym on Sunday morning! We start at 11:00 am and usually finish up by noon.

Strategic Discipleship Initiative Courses

Courage by Francis Chan
Leaders – Tung Dang and Jessica Sherwood

Many students fear what people would think if they stood up for Truth. It is tempting for students to blend in with the crowd and keep silent. The risk of being rejected or alone for speaking up seems far too great.

Francis Chan opens up the Scriptures and shows students how their faith in Christ can give them the ability to live lives defined by courage. Students share real-life stories regarding their struggles and successes in the face of adversity.

Foundations Part 1, by Dr Ken Ham, Answers in Genesis
Leaders – Terry Meier and Jeanne Weisser

Millions of Christians have decided that the Bible is out of date. They’ve decided that the words of Jesus aren’t always true. The Foundations—Ken Ham’s signature DVD series based on 30 years of ministry—reveals the alarming state of Christianity today. Videos like The Relevance of Genesis and Revealing the Unknown God will challenge students to look at today’s culture through the lens of God’s Word.

Is the Bible Reliable? Building the Historical Case by Dr Stephen Meyer, Discovery Institute
Leaders – Eric Volbrecht, Gary White and Hannah Rhoads

In this study, Dr. Stephen Meyer challenges you to examine the historical and archaeological evidence to determine for yourself the veracity and accuracy of Scripture. Is the Bible true? You decide.

Underground Reality Vietnam: How to Live a Faith Worth Dying For
by Voice of the Martyrs.

Leaders – Russ and Jen Pinyan

Take a journey with eight ordinary teens from America and Australia who started with a single mission – to smuggle Bibles to the underground church in Vietnam- and were faced with the question “How far are you willing to go for your faith?”

Thinking Like a Christian
By David Noebel and Chuck Edwards

Leader – Steve Davenport

Designed to nourish a young person’s confidence in the reality of a Bible-based worldview and drawn from the popular seminars by Summit Ministries of Colorado Springs, Thinking Like a Christian explains the refreshingly sensible Biblical approach to life.

On Wednesday nights during the school year, we encourage students to bring their friends for the first time. It is a fun and welcoming environment for students middle school through high school.  Each week is exciting and unpredictable.  We might be playing putt putt, watching movies or going hard after God through worship and biblical preaching. Midweek Youth goes from 6:45-8:00pm

Summer Camp and Missions Trips are also a critical part of our teens lives. Check those out or ask around!

This summer:  41 attended middle school camp, 21 attended high school camp, 18 participated in the Nicaragua Missions trip

In all, 80 people invested a least a week of their life in furthering their walk with Jesus Christ this summer!
